    Mr Gorav Datta is an Orthopaedic Consultant Surgeon at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). He specialises in all forms of knee and hip surgery including soft tissue and joint preserving surgery, arthroplasty and revision arthroplasty. He is the regional lead for pelvic and acetabular reconstruction and also serves as the sarcoma lead at UHS, assessing patients with new primary bone and soft tissue malignancies and treating patients with secondary malignancies. He provides growth factor treatments in chronic tendinopathies and osteoarthritis, and hip joint preserving surgery (hip arthroscopy and femoral head resculpting).

    Mr Dutta pursued his undergraduate training from the University College London Medical School and basic surgical training from Hammersmith Hospitals Surgical Rotation, London. He undertook higher surgical training in the North West Thames region of the London Deanery during which he acquired two major fellowships – from Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore and St George’s Hospital, London - to gain experience in general orthopaedics and all aspects of trauma surgery.

    Mr Datta is actively involved in research, having completed his Doctorate of Medicine (MD) research degree at Imperial College London. His MD research thesis, titled ‘Changes in Paraspinal Muscle as a Result of Surgery and its Impact on Outcome’, was a collaborative project at Imperial College London between the Musculoskeletal and Neurosurgical departments. He has also conducted research into femoro-acetabular impingement following acetabular fractures, and has numerous publications in other areas of research as well as a chapter in the Stanmore Operative Guide. He has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and is actively involved in teaching of undergraduates and surgical trainees at UHS. He supervises medical students in their BMed Sciences projects.
