Prof Guy Leschziner is a consultant neurologist specialising in sleep disorders, epilepsy, and other causes of blackouts or funny turns. His NHS base is Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital, where he works within the Department of Neurology and the Sleep Disorders Centre. He holds clinics focusing on sleep disorders, epilepsy, and general neurology.
Prof Leschziner completed his general medical training in London before undertaking a PhD in the genetics of epilepsy and drug treatment at Imperial College London and the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in Cambridge. His neurology training was completed at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals.
He lectures regularly and conducts ongoing research in narcolepsy, sleepwalking, Kleine-Levin syndrome, and restless legs syndrome. Prof Leschziner is also a professor in neurology and sleep medicine at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King's College London.
Prof Leschziner has an active interest in public engagement. He is a presenter for BBC Radio 4 and the World Service on neuroscience topics and is the author of ""The Nocturnal Brain: Nightmares, Neuroscience, and the Secret World of Sleep"" and ""The Man Who Tasted Words.""
