Dr Hosam Serag is a consultant urological surgeon at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and HCA The Harborne Hospital, Birmingham. He specialises in urological cancers, with a particular focus on advanced renal and retroperitoneal cancer.


In 2019 he was appointed to a uro oncology fellowship at the University of British Columbia and Vancouver General Hospital, where he gained extensive experience in complex open cancer resections and robotic surgery .

Since returning to the UK in late 2019 he has worked as a consultant specialising in advanced renal and retroperitoneal cancer, with a tertiary referral practice based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham .

His areas of expertise include kidney cancer, bladder cancer, prostate cancer, testicular cancer and benign scrotal conditions. He regularly performs procedures such as partial and radical nephrectomy (open, laparoscopic and robotic), transurethral resection of bladder tumour (TURBT), transurethral resection of prostate (TURP), cystoscopy (rigid and flexible), circumcision, hydrocele repair, urethrotomy and scrotal lump excision .

He is committed to urological education, teaching on national training courses, contributing to clinical guidelines and authoring a book chapter on kidney cancer .

He treats conditions including bladder cancer, kidney cancer, prostate cancer, testicular cancer, hydrocele, epididymal cysts and scrotal lumps, offering both open and minimally invasive surgical options.
