    Dr Ian McCafferty graduated from University College London in 1989. After completing medical posts in London, Australia & Bournemouth he obtained his membership of the Royal College of Physicians. He moved to Birmingham in 1993 to undertake specialist training in Radiology followed by sub-specialist training in Interventional Radiology. He undertook a Fellowship in Interventional Radiology in Oxford at the John Radcliffe and Churchill Hospitals developing an interest in fibroid embolisation, urogenital imaging & intervention and oncological treatments.

    Dr McCafferty is committed to education previously deputy head of the West Midlands Radiology training scheme. He has been Chairman of the British Society of Interventional Radiology (BSIR) Education committee where he help develop parts of the interventional radiology curriculum and assessment tools for the new sub-speciality of interventional radiology. He currently is a member of the Scientific Program committee of the BSIR responsible for arranging the annual national scientific meeting. He was a founder board member of the British Society of Urogenital Radiology (BSUR).

    Dr McCafferty regularly lectures regionally and nationally, he has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and regularly acts as an expert reviewer. He acts as a medicolegal expert in uroradiology and colorectal radiology. His current research interests are the management of vascular malformations and multi-functional MRI prostate. He is currently involved in developing a national steering group for the standardization and education for multi-functional prostate MRI.

    He is co-founder of the Birmingham Bowel Clinic for the treatment of colorectal diseases and is involved with the imaging and intervention for the Birmingham Prostate Clinic.
