Miss Ishrak Hamo MB BCh MCS FRCSI is a distinguished consultant oncoplastic breast surgeon. She began her medical career as a general surgeon and was the first female in Sudan to earn a Masters degree in Clinical Surgery. Since 1982, she has practised as a consultant surgeon internationally before moving to University College Hospital, London, to specialise in breast surgery. Miss Hamo further honed her skills in oncoplastic breast surgery at Royal Liverpool and Whiston Hospitals and attended numerous training courses in Italy and France.
Since 2004, Miss Hamo has served as a consultant breast surgeon across various UK hospitals, including The Royal Marsden. In her role on the Isle of Man, she led the development of breast services, introducing breast reconstruction, sentinel node biopsy, and multidisciplinary meetings. Her efforts were recognised by the President of the Association of Breast Surgeons.
Miss Hamo's areas of expertise include oncoplastic breast surgical and reconstructive procedures such as therapeutic mammoplasty, implant-based and pedicle flap breast reconstruction, breast reduction, and augmentation. She is proficient in managing breast cancer, performing axillary node dissection, and conducting risk-reducing mastectomies with immediate reconstruction.
A Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland, Miss Hamo is also a member of the Association of Breast Surgeons, European Society of Surgical Oncology, Association of Surgeons of Great Britain & Ireland, and Women in Surgery. She has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at international and national meetings. Miss Hamo's last substantive post was at The Royal Bournemouth before she returned to London to work in the private sector.
