Dr Jawad Ahmad is a consultant general and HPB (hepatopancreatobiliary) surgeon at The Harborne Hospital, HCA Healthcare UK. He was appointed following extensive specialist training in Northern Ireland and international fellowships at leading HPB units, and has over 28 years of clinical experience. His pronoun is he/him.

He specialises in liver, pancreas, gallbladder, bile duct and hernia surgery, with a focus on laparoscopic and robotic techniques. His areas of expertise include minimally invasive cholecystectomy, complex bile duct and gallbladder cases, robotic hepato?pancreato?biliary surgery, Whipple procedure and hernia repairs. He is recognised as one of a few surgeons in the UK to perform major liver, pancreas, bile duct and gallbladder operations using surgical robotics.

Dr Ahmad treats a wide range of conditions such as gallstones, gallbladder cancer, bile duct diseases including strictures and cholangiocarcinoma, liver cancer, liver metastases, pancreatic disorders including cancer and pancreatitis, adhesions, appendicitis, lipomas and various hernias (inguinal, femoral, umbilical, incisional, Spigelian and abdominal wall defects). He routinely performs procedures like laparoscopic and open cholecystectomy, liver biopsy and resection (for primary or secondary cancer), splenectomy, appendicectomy, diagnostic laparoscopy, adhesiolysis, GIST excision, lipoma removal, and robotic HPB surgery.

In addition to clinical practice, Dr Ahmad contributes to medical research with laboratory work, publications in scientific journals and audits, and has received academic and competitive fellowships. He supports education as an honorary clinical lecturer at Warwick Medical School, University of Warwick.

His interests lie in advancing minimally invasive and robotic surgical techniques, improving outcomes for HPB and hernia patients, and educating future surgeons.
