Mr John Afolayan is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgeon specialising in the diagnosis and surgical management of conditions affecting the spine. He practises privately at HCA Healthcare UK and has extensive experience in managing both routine and complex spinal disorders.

Mr Afolayan qualified in medicine from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Hospital School of Medicine in London and completed specialist training in trauma and orthopaedic surgery. He undertook advanced fellowship training in orthopaedic and neurosurgical spinal surgery at leading centres including the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and the Royal London Hospital.

His clinical expertise spans the full range of spinal conditions, including spinal deformity, spinal tumours, degenerative spine disease, trauma and sports-related injuries. He has particular expertise in the management of complex spinal conditions and is one of the spinal sarcoma surgeons within the London Sarcoma Service.

Mr Afolayan performs a wide range of procedures including spinal decompression, discectomy, scoliosis surgery and minimally invasive spinal surgery. His approach focuses on combining advanced surgical techniques with multidisciplinary care to improve patient outcomes and support faster recovery.

Alongside his clinical work, he is actively involved in research, teaching and international collaboration. He contributes to academic publications and supports the training of undergraduate and postgraduate students, with a strong focus on advancing spinal surgery and improving patient care.
