Mr John Yap is a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon and the clinical lead for the major aortic program at The Heart Hospital, University College London Hospitals. He is also a co-founder of London Heart Specialists, Harley Street Clinic. Mr Yap specialises in the surgical and endovascular treatment of valvular heart disease, Marfan syndrome, and diseases of the thoracic aorta, including aortic dissection and aneurysms.

Mr Yap completed his medical degree at Glasgow University and initially specialised in general surgery. In 1992, he obtained a fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow. Following this, he pursued further training in cardiothoracic surgery in London and completed a research fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in the USA. His research into gene therapy earned him a Doctorate of Medicine.

Mr Yap's areas of expertise include aortic surgery, gene therapy, coronary artery surgery, and valve repair or replacement. He is highly skilled in treating diseases of the thoracic aorta, such as aortic dissection and aneurysms, as well as conditions like Marfan syndrome and valvular heart disease.
