Dr Jonathan Kwan MBE is a distinguished consultant nephrologist and general physician at Darent Valley Hospital, Kent. He also holds an honorary consultant position at King’s College Hospital, where he conducts regular clinical sessions. Dr Kwan has been treating kidney patients for over 30 years, with the last 20 years at the consultant level.

Dr Kwan's areas of expertise include all aspects of renal medicine, hypertension, early detection of kidney disease, chronic kidney disease (CKD), diabetic kidney disease, general nephrology, urinary abnormalities such as haematuria and proteinuria, dialysis, and renal transplantation medicine. He is highly skilled in managing complex renal conditions and has a keen interest in innovative treatment approaches.

After graduating from King’s College Hospital Medical School in the early 1980s, Dr Kwan trained in renal and general medicine at several prestigious London teaching hospitals. He was first appointed as a consultant nephrologist in 1994 and has since held various leadership roles, including clinical director, divisional director, and medical director at Epsom & St Helier Hospitals.

In 2010, Dr Kwan took a sabbatical to work abroad, gaining substantial international experience. He has received numerous national accolades, including the UK Hospital Doctor of the Year in Innovation in 2004 and runner-up in the Renal Team category in 2007. Dr Kwan has published over 65 peer-reviewed papers in high-impact journals and was awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for services to the NHS in 2020.
