Dr Jonathan Stevenson is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in orthopaedic oncology and complex arthroplasty. He has expertise in pelvic surgery and reconstruction, revision hip and knee replacement and prosthetic joint infection. He treats adult and paediatric bone and soft tissue sarcomas, bone metastases, benign bone and soft tissue tumours, arthritis, osteoarthritis, lipomas, schwannomas and nerve tumours. In 2015 he was appointed at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust, Birmingham, where he is also a Senior Honorary Clinical Lecturer in Orthopaedics at Aston University. He serves as clinical lead for sarcoma genomics, metastatic bone disease and the research tissue bank at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, and was elected clinical lead for the National Cancer Research Institute bone metastases group in 2015. He is principal investigator on studies into osseointegration of endoprosthetic replacements and bacterial fluorescence in prosthetic joint infection. Dr Stevenson has received multiple awards, including the British Orthopaedic Association International Travelling Fellowship (2014), the British Orthopaedic Oncology Society European Travelling Fellowship (2015), and an American British Canadian Travelling Fellowship. He was awarded a level 7 certificate in strategic management and leadership and completed the BOA clinical leadership programme. He is an active researcher, with over 100 peer reviewed publications, more than 1?000 citations, six book chapters and co editor of an orthopaedic basic sciences textbook. He presents regularly at international conferences and reviews for several orthopaedic and oncology journals. In 2023 he received a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) grant to lead the first UK clinical trial in surgically treated metastatic bone disease. He holds trustee and clinical lead roles with the Bone Cancer Research Trust and Bone Metastasis Research Collaborative. He practices at The Harborne Hospital (HCA Healthcare UK) in Birmingham, and also offers private and NHS care at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital. His appointment year is 2015.
