Dr Kai-Keen Shiu is a distinguished Medical Oncology Consultant specialising in Gastrointestinal Oncology at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He also holds the position of Honorary Associate Professor at the UCL Cancer Institute. Dr Shiu has been serving in this role since 2013, bringing a wealth of expertise in treating oesophageal, stomach, small bowel, colorectal, and hepatobiliary cancers, as well as cancers of unknown primary.

Dr Shiu is the UCLH Clinical Lead for the Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) Service and the Acute Oncology Service. His research interests are deeply rooted in immunotherapy for gastrointestinal malignancies and Cancer of Unknown Primary, with a particular focus on clinical trials and translational research. He is the Chief Investigator or Principal Investigator for several high-profile Phase 2 and 3 trials, including KEYNOTE 177, KEYNOTE 859, and CUPISCO.

In addition to his clinical and research roles, Dr Shiu is actively involved in various professional organisations. He is the Chair of the NCRI MUO-CUP Workstream and a member of the NCRI Colorectal Advanced and Adjuvant Disease Subgroup. He also collaborates with the GI Oncology and CUP subgroups at the UCL Cancer Institute and Francis Crick Institute.

Dr Shiu is passionate about education and frequently teaches oncology to UCL medical students and junior trainees. He is also a sought-after speaker at national and international conferences, where he shares insights on GI oncology research, CUP, immunotherapy, and novel trial designs. His commitment to advancing the field of oncology is evident in his extensive involvement in both clinical practice and research.
