Dr Kalpa De Silva is a consultant interventional cardiologist, practicing at St. Thomas' Hospital, London. Dr De Silva qualified from St. Bartholomew's & The Royal London Medical School in 2004, became a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2007, and subsequently obtained a PhD in cardiovascular medicine from King’s College London in 2014.
His general and interventional cardiology training was undertaken at King’s College and St Thomas’s Hospitals, London. He also completed an international fellowship in complex coronary intervention at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, Australia. He is experienced in a range of cardiac conditions and has a particular interest in the treatment of coronary artery disease. He specialises in managing coronary disease using minimally invasive percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) techniques. He is interested in optimising his patients’ outcomes by using physiology and imaging modalities and treats patients with complex coronary disease including multi-vessel disease and chronic total occlusions.
Dr De Silva remains active in academic research within his field. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at King's College London and was previously a nominee for the American College of Cardiology’s young investigator award. His research interests include the management of heart attacks, angina, and cardiogenic shock, as well as the use of mechanical circulatory support to assist during stenting procedures. He has published in excess of 50 peer-reviewed journals and has co-authored books on a variety of topics in interventional cardiology. He is also a regular invitee to leading national and international conferences.
Dr De Silva treats conditions such as angina, chest pain, heart attacks, and microvascular angina. He performs procedures including coronary angiography, stent insertion (PCI), complex coronary angioplasty, and the treatment of multi-vessel coronary disease and chronic total occlusions.
