Mr Karan Malhotra is an esteemed orthopaedic consultant specialising in foot and ankle surgery at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH). He also offers private consultations through the Stanmore Foot and Ankle Specialists group. His practice covers a wide range of adult foot and ankle surgeries, including complex neuromuscular conditions, deformities, tendon disorders, arthritis, plantar fasciitis, bunions, and toe deformities. Mr Malhotra has a particular interest in ankle arthritis and deformity, ankle arthroscopy, ankle replacements, flat foot deformity, forefoot deformity, hindfoot arthritis, midfoot arthritis, neuromuscular foot and ankle conditions, osteochondral defects of the talus, plantar fasciitis, sports and dance injuries, tendon disorders, and the treatment of pes cavus. He ensures patient involvement in decision-making and provides balanced opinions on surgical and non-surgical options.
A graduate with honours from the University of Manchester, Mr Malhotra completed his orthopaedic training in Yorkshire and London. He has undertaken fellowships in foot and ankle surgery in Australia and the UK, and a travelling fellowship to Singapore. His training includes ankle replacements, fusions, arthroscopic surgery, ligament reconstruction, minimally invasive surgery, and treating complex neurological conditions.
Mr Malhotra is dedicated to training and leads the junior doctor teaching programme at RNOH. He is also involved in simulation training and various teaching programmes. Passionate about research, he has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and consensus documents. His research focuses on novel methods for treating arthritis, deformity correction, and neuromuscular disorders.
Throughout his career, Mr Malhotra has received multiple awards, including the 'Best International Research Paper' by the European Foot and Ankle Society (EFAS) in 2018 and the 'Chang Chen Best Paper Award' by BOFAS in 2021. In his free time, he enjoys photography, digital art, graphic design, and keeping up with technology.
