Mr Khalid Ikram is a highly experienced consultant ophthalmologist with over 20 years of expertise in his field. He completed his initial medical training at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, graduating in 1991. He then trained in ophthalmic surgery at leading UK hospitals in Southampton and Oxford. Mr Ikram undertook his subspecialty fellowship in corneal and refractive procedures at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, where he was trained in both laser vision correction and specialised intraocular surgery.
In 2002, Mr Ikram took up his NHS consultant post at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport, and also serves as an honorary consultant at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. He is a passionate educator, involved in teaching and training junior ophthalmic surgeons. He was the Royal College of Ophthalmologists tutor for ophthalmology at Stepping Hill Hospital and sat on regional specialist training committees.
Mr Ikram has a particular interest in improving standards of assessment and planning for cataract and refractive lens surgery. He has run teaching conferences in preoperative biometry at both national and international levels. He specialises in small incision cataract surgery and has developed considerable expertise in refractive surgery techniques for managing conditions such as myopia, hyperopia, and presbyopia.
Mr Ikram is dedicated to reducing the need for spectacle wear through ocular surgery, making life more comfortable for those dependent on glasses. His extensive experience includes routine eye exams, urgent eye care, multifocal intraocular lens procedures, cataract surgery, complex cataract surgery, refractive lens surgery, corneal transplantation, and corneal crosslinking for keratoconus. He also treats conditions like dry eye, eye infections, and visual stress.
