Mr Khurshid Akhtar is a Consultant General and Upper GI Surgeon with a special interest in oesophagus and stomach cancer, gastroesophageal reflux disease, hiatus hernia, bariatric surgery, gallstones, and keyhole hernia surgery. He has been a consultant surgeon for over 20 years, initially at the Pennine Trust and since 2010 at the Salford Royal Foundation Trust. At Salford Royal Hospital, he works in the Department of Upper GI Surgery, one of the largest Upper GI Surgical Units in the country.
Mr Akhtar believes in lifelong learning and has acquired extensive expertise and experience in his field. He uses his knowledge and skills to provide the best possible care to his patients, ensuring that each treatment recommendation is carefully considered. He is proud to have treated thousands of happy patients over the years.
His research interests include oesophagogastric cancer, Barrett’s oesophagus, and bariatric surgery. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a member of several professional associations, including the Association of Upper GI Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (AUGIS), the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ALSGBI), the British Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS), and the Manchester Regional Association of Surgeons (MRAS).
Mr Akhtar is an expert in procedures such as gallstone removal, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, inguinal and umbilical hernia repair, keyhole hernia surgery, gastroscopy, and surgeries for gastroesophageal reflux disease, hiatus hernia, Barrett’s oesophagus, achalasia, and oesophagus and stomach cancer. He is dedicated to providing high-quality, patient-centred care.
