About Mr Kostas Karavidas

GMC number: 6165155

Year qualified: 1998

Place of primary qualification: University of Ioannina

Mr Kostas Karavidas is a Consultant Maxillofacial/Head and Neck and Oral Surgeon at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, where he has been serving since May 2012. He is a core member of the Head and Neck Multidisciplinary Team.

Mr Karavidas specialises in head and neck cancer surgery, facial reconstruction and rehabilitation with microsurgery and free tissue transfer, skin cancer, sialendoscopy, and minimal intraoral surgery for obstructive salivary gland disease, including stones and strictures. He also has expertise in salivary gland surgery, paediatric oral surgery, and tongue ties.

He performs regular sialendoscopies, utilising various minimally invasive treatments for obstructive salivary gland disease. These treatments include laser intraluminal fragmentation of stones, basket retrieval of stones, balloon sialoplasties, and the intraoral ductal stretching technique for deeply seated stones in the hilum of the submandibular gland.

Mr Karavidas has a significant experience in performing free tissue transfer for the reconstruction of facial defects using a variety of flaps. He passionately believes in patient-specific reconstruction and often incorporates virtual surgical planning in the treatment of his patients. This approach ensures that all patients are well-informed about their outcomes prior to surgery.

Mr Karavidas is dedicated to providing the highest level of care and expertise to his patients, ensuring optimal outcomes through advanced surgical techniques and personalised treatment plans.
