Mr Kunal Bhakhri is a highly esteemed thoracic surgeon specialising in minimally invasive and robotic-assisted procedures. He is the robotic lead for thoracic surgery at University College London Hospital, where he has been instrumental since his appointment in 2019. Mr Bhakhri completed his speciality thoracic training at Royal Papworth Hospital and further honed his skills with an advanced robotic fellowship in London.
Mr Bhakhri's areas of expertise include thoracic (lung) surgery, thoracoscopy or VATS, lobectomy, thymectomy, diaphragm plication, lung volume reduction surgery, sympathectomy, NUSS procedure, pectus bracing and vacuum bell therapy, and chest wall reconstruction and rib plating. He is dedicated to treating conditions such as lung cancer, metastatic cancer, mediastinal tumours, myasthenia gravis, diaphragm palsy, pectus deformity, and chest wall injuries, including sports-related injuries of the rib cage.
In his role, Mr Bhakhri collaborates with a super-specialist group of clinical teams to develop world-class surgical care processes for diseases of the chest, covering the entire patient pathway from consultation and imaging to surgery and recovery.
