Dr Lia Patricia Menasce is a distinguished consultant histopathologist at The Christie, where she has been serving since January 2001. She completed her medical degree at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1980 and earned her PhD from Manchester University in 1994. During her PhD, Dr Menasce developed innovative techniques for the diagnosis of lymphoma and played a pivotal role in the mapping of the human genome.
Dr Menasce is renowned for pioneering fluorescent in situ hybridisation (FISH) techniques, which have significantly advanced the diagnosis of haemolymphoid malignancies. She trained in histopathology in Manchester and further specialised in haemolymphoid and endocrine pathology at The Christie and IPATIMUP (Institute of Molecular Pathology and Immunology at the University of Porto), Portugal.
Currently, Dr Menasce holds the position of clinical director of pathology at The Christie. Her areas of expertise include haemolymphoid and endocrine pathology, where she excels in diagnosing and treating various conditions related to these specialisations. Her contributions to medical science and patient care are widely recognised, making her a leading figure in her field.
