Dr Mark Foster is a consultant hand and plastic surgeon based at The Harborne Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare UK in Birmingham. He specialises in complex hand trauma and upper limb reconstruction, with over 23?years of experience after training at Frimley Park, Frenchay and Johannesburg and studying medicine at the Universities of St?Andrews and Manchester.

Appointed in February 2014 as consultant hand and plastic surgeon, he holds fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.


He performs a wide range of procedures including carpal tunnel decompression, ganglion excision, trigger finger and thumb releases, Dupuytren’s contracture surgery, scar revision, skin lesion excision and advanced reconstructive operations for acute hand injuries.


Within the hospital, he has served as clinical service lead for day surgery, improving patient pathways, launching new surgical centres and enhancing theatre efficiency.


His interests include restoring function and quality of life following upper limb injury, optimising surgical pathways and advancing evidence-based trauma care through clinical research.
