Mr Matthew Barry is a Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon based at Southampton General Hospital, where he has been serving since 2017. He also offers private consultations at The Portland Hospital. Prior to his current roles, Mr Barry worked at the Royal London Hospital, where he was appointed as a consultant in 1998.
Mr Barry specialises in managing a wide range of conditions affecting children from birth to 17 years old. His areas of expertise include hip, knee, and foot problems, as well as issues affecting the upper limb. He is highly skilled in the treatment of fractures and is a specialist in trauma, disturbances of the growth plate, limb length inequality, mal-alignment, and non-unions.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr Barry is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Department of Medical Engineering at Queen Mary, University of London. His research interests focus on the mechanical properties of circular external fixators, such as the Ilizarov and Spatial Frame, in the treatment of fracture non-unions, mal-unions, and limb deformity. He is actively involved in teaching medical students and medical engineering students, and he also lectures on postgraduate courses in Trauma and Orthopaedics.
