Miss Mel Field is a Consultant Renal Transplant, Vascular and Parathyroid Surgeon at The Harborne Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare UK. She specialises in renal transplant, vascular and endocrine surgery, with particular expertise in parathyroid and kidney procedures.

She qualified with an MBChB from Birmingham University Medical School in 2002. She then completed surgical training in the West Midlands, ensuring a solid foundation in general and specialist surgical techniques. Her commitment to advancing clinical practice led her to earn an MD focused on identifying biomarkers in renal transplantation.

In 2016, Mel was appointed as Consultant in Renal Transplant, Vascular and Parathyroid Surgery at The Harborne Hospital. In this role she leads the regional parathyroid multidisciplinary team, knowing that complex endocrine conditions benefit from collaborative decision?making.

She regularly performs key procedures such as kidney transplant and parathyroidectomy, and manages a variety of vascular access treatments. Her clinical interests include patient?reported outcome measures (PROMS), vascular access surgery, parathyroid and renal transplant treatment strategies.

Mel is also passionate about teaching and shaping future generations of surgeons. She serves as Foundation Training Programme Director and engages actively in medical education and research.

She treats patients with parathyroid disorders, renal failure requiring vascular access, and those needing transplant interventions. Her approach consistently focuses on improving outcomes and ensuring patients receive responsive, outcomes?driven care.
