    Dr Michael Koa-Wing is the Lead Consultant Cardiologist at West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust and a visiting consultant at Imperial College Healthcare, Hammersmith Hospital. He also serves as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College, London.

    Dr Koa-Wing is highly trained in all aspects of general cardiology, including the management of chest pain, heart failure, funny turns, loss of consciousness, and palpitations. His major subspecialist interest lies in heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias) and implantable cardiac devices. He is proficient in implanting pacemakers, loop recorders, left atrial appendage occluders, defibrillators, and cardiac resynchronisation devices. Additionally, he performs cardioversions and catheter ablation for all types of arrhythmias, including supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation, and ventricular tachycardia.

    Dr Koa-Wing graduated with distinctions from Guys’, King’s and St. Thomas’ Medical Schools and completed his postgraduate training at St. Mary’s and Hammersmith Hospitals, Imperial College. He also gained valuable experience at Harvard Medical School associated Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, USA.

    He holds a PhD in cardiac electrophysiology from Imperial College, London. His research has led to a multicentre clinical trial in ventricular tachycardia ablation and the development of a 3D mapping system for the ablation of complex arrhythmias, known as Ripple Mapping, which is now used clinically worldwide.

    Dr Koa-Wing is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and a member of the British Cardiac Society, European Society of Cardiology, and British Heart Rhythm Society.

    Appointed in 2023, Dr Koa-Wing continues to contribute significantly to the field of cardiology through his clinical practice, research, and teaching roles.
