Dr Michael Mendall is a distinguished gastroenterologist based at Croydon University Hospital, where he has been serving since 1985. He specialises in gastroenterology and is the lead clinician for the department, overseeing 12,000 endoscopies annually. Dr Mendall also leads the Inflammatory Bowel Disease service, catering to 1,700 patients.

An expert in interventional endoscopy, Dr Mendall has performed over 7,000 colonoscopies, 10,000 upper GI endoscopies, and 3,000 ERCPs. His expertise extends to emergency endoscopy for uncontrolled gastrointestinal bleeding, oesophageal stenting, videocapsule endoscopy, double balloon enteroscopy, and oesophageal physiology studies.

Dr Mendall's research contributions are significant, with over 100 publications in prestigious journals such as The Lancet and the British Medical Journal. He has made notable advancements in areas like dyspepsia, inflammatory bowel disease, and irritable bowel syndrome. He collaborates closely with GI radiologists, specialist histopathologists, and GI dieticians to provide comprehensive care.

In addition to his clinical and research roles, Dr Mendall has served on various committees, including the British Society of Gastroenterology Clinical Services committee and the Upper GI Cancer London Cancer Alliance board.
