Place of primary qualification: University of London
Dr Michael Robson is a highly experienced Consultant Nephrologist based in London. He sees patients at the Shard Outpatient Centre and London Bridge Hospital with availability on most weekdays. His NHS practice is at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust.
Dr Robson obtained a First Class undergraduate degree in Medicine from Oxford University in 1989, before undertaking further clinical studies in London. He went on to train in Nephrology at King’s College and Guy’s Hospitals. Following an MRC Clinical Training Fellowship and research into glomerulonephritis, he gained a PhD from Imperial College in 2000. He was appointed as a Consultant Nephrologist at Guy's and St Thomas’ NHS Trust in 2002.
His clinical practice covers all aspects of renal medicine including nephrology, dialysis, and transplantation. He has particular expertise in lupus, vasculitis, and glomerulonephritis but is able to see and treat patients with any form of kidney disease. Dr Robson is the Nephrology Lead in the lupus nephritis and vasculitis clinic at Guy's and St Thomas'. This clinic has one of the largest groups of patients with lupus nephritis in Europe.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Robson runs a laboratory-based research programme in glomerulonephritis and seeks to understand mechanisms of disease in order to discover new treatments. He was also the Chief Investigator in the PAVE trial, a multi-centre clinical trial funded by the National Institute for Health Research, aimed at preserving vascular access for haemodialysis.
Dr Robson has also chaired the UK Renal Association Clinical Practice Guideline Committee since June 2017. His dedication to both clinical practice and research makes him a leading figure in the field of nephrology.
