Dr Muhammad?Tayyab is a consultant general and colorectal surgeon at The Harborne Hospital part of HCA Healthcare UK. He was appointed in 2015 as Lead in Colorectal Surgery at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust and has over two decades of experience, having qualified in 2002. He trained in Yorkshire and earned an MD from the University of Hull, focusing on rectal tumour volumes on MRI and their correlation with oncological outcomes

He specialises in minimally invasive colorectal cancer surgery and laparoscopic key hole surgery. His areas of expertise include colorectal surgery, laparoscopic gallbladder removal, abdominal wall reconstruction and hernia repair with advanced laparoscopic techniques.

Dr Tayyab regularly performs upper and lower GI endoscopies, colonoscopies, sigmoidoscopies and a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures


Dr Tayyab treats a comprehensive spectrum of conditions ranging from bowel cancer and rectal cancer to benign disorders such as haemorrhoids, anal fissures, fistula in ano, pilonidal sinus, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, gallstone disease and various hernias.

He is adept at performing procedures including proctocolectomy, abdominoperineal resection, bowel diversions, fistulectomy with seton insertion, haemorrhoid artery ligation (HALO), Botox for anal fissure, stoma reversal, and both diagnostic and therapeutic laparoscopic interventions.

In addition to his clinical roles, he contributes to research and education. Following his MD, he completed an international robotic fellowship in Lisbon, and has authored several peer reviewed publications, presenting his work at international conferences.

Beyond his surgical practice, Dr Tayyab takes an active role in professional development and mentorship. He continues to hold leadership positions, supports NHS training initiatives and engages in research activities aimed at improving colorectal surgical outcomes and patient care pathways.
