Prof Neil Ruparelia is a Consultant Cardiologist with a sub-specialisation in Interventional Cardiology. He practices in the London and Berkshire areas, managing a wide range of general cardiology cases using both medical and interventional techniques. Prof Ruparelia earned his MBBS from University College London in 2004, along with an intercalated degree in Medical Law. He completed his specialist training in Cardiology in Oxfordshire and further specialised with a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at Hammersmith Hospital, London, and an MSc from San Raffaele Scientific Institute, Milan. He also holds a DPhil (PhD) from Balliol College, University of Oxford, with additional studies at MIT and Harvard.
In 2017, Prof Ruparelia was awarded Fellowship of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and began his role as a Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Berkshire and Hammersmith Hospitals. He has authored over 100 publications and was appointed Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London in 2018. In 2020, he became a Visiting Professor at the University of Reading and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP).
Prof Ruparelia's areas of expertise include chronic total occlusion (CTO) PCI, coronary physiology assessment, intravascular imaging (IVUS/OCT), rotational atherectomy (rotablation), and intravascular lithotripsy (IVL/Shockwave). He is also skilled in bifurcation stenting, left main stem intervention, transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), and various closure procedures such as patent foramen ovale (PFO) and atrial septal defect (ASD). Additionally, he performs permanent pacemaker implantation and both transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography.
Prof Ruparelia treats conditions such as chest pain, heart valve disease, palpitations, rhythm disturbances, dizziness, breathlessness, heart failure, hypertension, cholesterol disorders, and cardiovascular risk reduction. He is also experienced in managing stroke, pacemakers, congenital heart disorders, and atrial septal defects (ASD).
