    One of the first and the most experienced, formally trained robotic surgeons in the UK, Mr Omer Karim has been a consultant urological surgeon in the Thames Valley area for 17 years and at St Mary’s Hospital since 2005. He specialises in diseases of the prostate and kidney with particular expertise in robotic surgery for prostate and kidney cancer. He started robotic surgery in 2004 and has been involved in over 250 successful robotic operations for prostate cancer. Prior to helping establish robotic urological surgery in the UK, he had performed over 500 open radical prostate cancer operations.

    Mr Karim qualified in medicine from Charing Cross Hospital Medical School in 1982 and became a Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) in 1987, Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons (London) in 1988, Master of Surgery (MS) from the University of London in 1993 and Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons (Urology) in 1994. He did his postgraduate research in teaching hospitals in the UK and the USA.

    Mr Karim regularly attends national and international meetings. He is actively involved in training fellow urologists in robotic surgery. In addition to his clinical activities, he is director of several companies, one of which is an AIM listed medical diagnostic company that focuses on innovative, point-of-care technology for urology.
