Mr Panny Kallis is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon working full-time in the private sector at The Harley Street Clinic and The Wellington Hospital. He has a particular interest in minimising blood transfusion following cardiac surgery, aortic surgery, redo surgery, and coronary artery bypass grafting.
Mr Kallis graduated from Medicine at UCH Medical School in 1984. He was awarded a fellowship by The Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1988. He completed his training in cardiothoracic surgery and heart transplantation at Harefield and St George's Hospitals. Notably, he was the first person to implant the first artificial lung (IVOX) in a human in 1991.
Mr Kallis continues to conduct research in post-cardiac surgery platelet dysfunction and reducing bleeding, which led to him being awarded a Master of Surgery degree from the University of London. His research interests also include epicardial pacing and myocardial ischemia on nerve responses.
He was first appointed as a Consultant at University College London Hospital in 1995, a position he held until 2002 when he transitioned to the private sector.
