Dr Patrick O’Connor: Dual Accredited GP and Consultant Physician

Dr Patrick O’Connor is a distinguished medical specialist, dually accredited as both a General Practitioner (GP) and a Consultant Physician in General Internal Medicine. He is currently practising at Palace Gate Practice, where he joined in 2022.

Dr O’Connor graduated from Dublin and initially spent a year in paediatric accident and emergency at one of Europe’s busiest stand-alone paediatric hospitals. He then completed his GP vocational training in Cambridge, where he worked as a GP for nearly a decade. During this period, he also served briefly as a Ship’s Physician for Carnival Cruise Lines.

In 2009, Dr O’Connor moved to rural Scotland and undertook additional training to accredit as a Consultant Physician, alongside his GP duties. He lived and worked in Fort William for 13 years before relocating to his current position.

Throughout his career, Dr O’Connor has been deeply involved in the teaching and training of medical students and junior doctors. He has held various honorary titles, including Lecturer, with the universities of Cambridge, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and Imperial College London. His contributions to medicine, training, and healthcare have earned him the honour of Fellowship from three UK Royal Colleges.

Dr O’Connor has a broad range of medical interests, including all aspects of General Practice, adult and elderly medicine, and paediatrics. He continues to maintain his consultant skills at various sites across the UK.

Outside of his medical career, Dr O’Connor enjoys playing the piano, though he modestly admits he is not as proficient as he once was. He has a passion for the arts, enjoys watching tennis, and cherishes time spent with his 10 nieces and nephews.
