Mr Peter Barry is a distinguished general surgeon based at The Wellington Hospital in London. He completed his initial medical training in Australia, earning his MBBS (Hons) from the University of Sydney in 1989. Further honing his expertise, he pursued additional training and fellowships in the UK, USA, and France. Mr Barry holds an MPhil in Translational Medicine from the Australian National University, obtained in 2015, and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) since 1998.
Mr Barry's specialist areas of interest include the early diagnosis of breast cancer, neoadjuvant and peri-operative trials, and sentinel node biopsy. He is highly skilled in performing nipple-sparing mastectomies for risk reduction and immediate breast reconstruction. His expertise extends to the use of local pedicled perforator flaps, such as LICAP, LTAP, MICAP, and TDAP, and he is proficient in complex and recurrent axillary (lymph gland) surgery.
In his surgical oncology practice in Australia, Mr Barry developed a keen interest in breast oncoplastic techniques and reconstructive options following cancer surgery. He also focuses on preventative surgeries for high-risk women. At The Wellington Hospital, he continues to provide exceptional care, specialising in oncoplastic breast surgery, therapeutic breast reduction and lifts for cancer, and implant-based, pre-pectoral, and local pedicled perforator flap procedures for breast volume replacement.
Mr Barry is also adept at performing lipomodelling (fat transfer) for reconstruction, ensuring comprehensive care for his patients.
