Dr Rachel Byng-Maddick is a consultant rheumatologist practising at NHS Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and privately at Wimpole Street in London. She received her medical degree from Imperial College London in 2004 and completed her specialist training in rheumatology and general medicine in 2017 at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and University College London Hospital. During this period, she also earned a PhD on infection during rheumatoid arthritis treatment from University College London.
Dr Byng-Maddick has a wealth of expertise in various forms of arthritis, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, and crystal arthritis such as gout. Her clinical interests also encompass connective tissue disease, osteoporosis, soft tissue rheumatology, and chronic pain syndromes, including fibromyalgia.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr Byng-Maddick is deeply involved in medical education. She serves as the undergraduate lead for rheumatology teaching at King’s College London, where she delivers lectures to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. She also supervises junior doctors during their training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital. Her commitment to academic research is evident through her numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr Byng-Maddick is a member of the British Society of Rheumatology and the Royal College of Physicians. She has been actively contributing to the field of rheumatology since her appointment in 2017.
