Dr Rahim Kanji is a consultant interventional cardiologist with NHS appointments at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Hammersmith Hospital, part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. His practice at The Wellington Hospital includes general cardiology, coronary artery disease and cardiovascular prevention.
He assesses chest pain, angina and heart attacks using non-invasive tests and coronary angiography, and performs angioplasty and stent procedures. His work includes intravascular imaging. He also sees patients with breathlessness, heart failure, structural and valvular heart disease, palpitations, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Dr Kanji received his BSc in Endocrinology and medical degree from Imperial College London with distinction, and completed postgraduate training in general medicine and cardiology in London. He also holds a PhD from Imperial's National Heart and Lung Institute, researching risk assessment in coronary artery disease and aortic stenosis.
His research interests include biomarkers, cardiovascular imaging, antiplatelet treatment and thrombosis. He lectures at international society meetings and to GPs, contributes to the development of treatment pathways, and leads the virtual chest pain ward at Chelsea. His preventive work includes assessing risk in people with established cardiovascular disease and those without symptoms.
