Professor Raj Persad is a Consultant Urological Surgeon and visiting Professor at several universities, including Bristol. He is a highly experienced prostate surgeon and andrologist, having trained in London, Bristol, and Cambridge, with postgraduate fellowships at Johns Hopkins, USA, and Lund, Sweden. He has been a national pioneer in minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of benign prostate disease (BPH) as an alternative to TURP.
Professor Persad offers advanced prostate diagnostic techniques to rule out cancer prior to treatment and collaborates with oncologists to optimise treatment outcomes. He works closely with the oncology team to improve post-treatment symptoms of radiation and treatment-induced toxicities, including erectile dysfunction, incontinence, bladder dysfunction, and low testosterone symptoms.
He is a leader in the treatment of erectile dysfunction, offering restorative surgery using state-of-the-art penile prosthetic devices if other treatments have not been successful. He also treats Peyronie’s disease, providing medical treatments in its early phases and surgical correction if necessary. With 25 years of experience in the restoration of fertility, he performs microsurgical reversal of vasectomy and other male infertility procedures such as varicocele correction and testicular extraction of sperm.
Professor Persad is committed to treatments tailored to the patient's lifestyle, based on a combination of scientific evidence and individual preference. His extensive research experience in healthcare supports this unique approach.
