Mr Rajesh Deshmukh is a consultant eye surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. He completed his ophthalmology training at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and the University Eye Hospital in Bristol. He later undertook a sub-speciality fellowship in cataract surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital London and in retinal disorders at the University Eye Hospital in Bristol.
Mr Deshmukh is an expert cataract surgeon and has been training ophthalmologists in cataract surgery since 2013. As a high-volume cataract surgeon, he performs over 1,000 cataract surgeries annually, maintaining a complication rate (PCR) of less than 0.5%, significantly lower than the national benchmark of 2%.
In addition to his expertise in cataract surgery, Mr Deshmukh specialises in medical retinal disorders. He leads the diabetic retinopathy services for Moorfields at Darent Valley Hospital in Kent.
Mr Deshmukh has also contributed to global health initiatives, working as a facilitator for the World Health Organisation (WHO) and conducting teaching workshops in four of the five regions in the Sultanate of Oman. He has served as a research investigator in various trials on cataract surgery and medical retina, publishing his findings in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals such as the American Journal of Ophthalmology (AJO), Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery (JCRS), Middle East African Journal of Ophthalmology (MEACO), and Eye.
