Professor Rakesh Heer: Leading Urologist and Robotic Surgery Specialist

Professor Rakesh Heer is a distinguished urologist with over 25 years of experience in the NHS. He specialises in general urology with a particular focus on prostate and bladder cancer management. Professor Heer is renowned for his high-volume robotic surgery practice, performing complex procedures such as prostatectomy, cystectomy, and urinary tract reconstruction, including ileal conduits and orthotopic bladders. His surgical outcomes are consistently benchmarked against national standards, including the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) and the National Prostate Cancer Audits.

Professor Heer graduated from Nottingham Medical School and completed his surgical and research training in Newcastle, where he rose to the position of Professor of Urology. Recently, he joined Imperial College London as a Professor of Urology, contributing to one of the UK's premier academic urology departments.

In addition to his surgical expertise, Professor Heer is dedicated to holistic patient care, ensuring that patient experience is at the forefront of his clinical practice. He is known for his approachable, honest, and caring nature, providing thorough explanations of conditions, investigations, and treatment options, both surgical and non-surgical.

Professor Heer holds several significant national leadership roles. His contributions to clinical research have been recognised with numerous awards, including the Huntarian Professorship Medal from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and prestigious Clinician Scientist Fellowships from Cancer Research UK (CRUK) and the Medical Research Council (MRC). In 2021, his exceptional work in clinical care, service innovation, national leadership, research, and medical education was honoured with a National Clinical Excellence Award.
