The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and Homerton University Hospital both employ Dr Richard Sylvester as a Consultant Neurologist. Dr Sylvester earned a doctorate in Cognitive Neuroscience from UCL after completing his specialised training in London following his graduation from Oxford University in 1999.
Dr Sylvester is an expert in cognitive neurology and manages a clinic for neuro-rehabilitation after traumatic brain injuries. He also manages a general neurology practise at UCLH and Homerton, where he diagnoses and treats patients with a variety of neurological conditions. He has a special interest in sports-related concussion and cognitive issues in retired athletes. His Tuesday clinic is normally a mix of sports people or non-professional sports people with head injuries such as a punch to the head or accidents involving trauma to the head. He has two physios with him and close links to psychologists attached to the clinic. He carries out no procedures/interventions.
At the UCL Institute of Sport and Exercise Health, Dr Sylvester treats athletes who have suffered head injuries and has a special interest in concussions related to sports. He served as an independent concussion expert for the Rugby World Cup and is a member of the English Football Association's expert concussion advisory council.
