Prof. Roman Cregg is a distinguished Consultant in Pain Medicine and Anaesthesia at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and UCLH, London, UK. He completed his medical training in anaesthesia at prestigious institutions including King’s College London, University College London, Chase Farm and Barnet, and the Royal Free Hospitals. His advanced pain medicine fellowship was conducted at the Imperial School, London, with appointments at Chelsea and Westminster, Hillingdon, and The Royal Marsden Hospitals. He further enhanced his sub-specialty training with advanced neuromodulation at Guys’ and St Thomas’ hospitals and interventional headache management at Cleveland Clinic, USA.
Prof. Cregg's clinical focus is on the multidisciplinary management of acute, chronic, and cancer pain. He leads a Pain Management Service that offers personalised care for patients with musculoskeletal, neuropathic, chronic, or cancer-related pain. His team employs a comprehensive approach, combining minimally invasive interventional techniques, pharmacological treatments, and rehabilitative strategies to diagnose, treat, and alleviate pain. The goal is to reduce or eliminate pain and help patients achieve optimal functionality.
His areas of expertise include the treatment of musculoskeletal pain, pelvic pain, cancer pain, and neuropathic pain. He is proficient in a wide range of procedures, including X-ray and CT-guided injections targeting peripheral structures and central blockades. Prof. Cregg is also involved in research focusing on neuronal hyperexcitability in chronic pain disorders, pain channelopathies, and the genetics of chronic pain. He is a member of several learned societies, including the International Headache Society and the British Pain Society.
