Mr Shafafy has extensive expertise in the full spectrum of spinal disorders, including scoliosis, kyphosis, degenerative spinal disease, spinal trauma and complex revision surgery. He has a particular interest in managing complex spinal deformity in both adults and children and is experienced in treating highly specialised and challenging cases.
He trained at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical School in London and completed specialist trauma and orthopaedic training in the South East of England. He has undertaken combined orthopaedic and neurosurgical training in spinal surgery, with advanced fellowship training at The Royal London Hospital and additional experience at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. His training has also included international fellowships across Europe, North America and Asia, working with leading spinal surgeons.
His clinical practice includes both surgical and non-surgical management, with expertise in minimally invasive and computer-guided spinal techniques aimed at improving precision and recovery. He works closely within multidisciplinary teams to provide personalised treatment plans, recommending surgery only when appropriate.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Shafafy is actively involved in research, education and innovation in spinal surgery, with a particular interest in emerging technologies such as computer navigation and advanced surgical techniques.
