Prof. Sarah O’Dwyer is an esteemed general surgeon with a special focus on colorectal diseases. She is dedicated to promoting screening for the early detection of pre-cancerous polyps and bowel cancer, alongside evaluating cancer risk and family cancer syndromes. Prof. O’Dwyer has garnered an international reputation for her expertise in managing peritoneal tumours and serves as the Lead Clinician for one of only two centres in the UK that treat pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP).

Since her appointment, Prof. O’Dwyer has established a comprehensive pelvic surgical service. This service integrates colorectal, urology, gynaecology, and plastic reconstructive surgery, working collaboratively with other departments. Her multidisciplinary approach ensures that patients receive the highest standard of care, aiming for the best possible outcomes.

Prof. O’Dwyer's areas of expertise include colorectal surgery (lower GI) and surgical oncology. She is highly skilled in treating a range of conditions such as colorectal cancer, peritoneal tumours, pseudomyxoma peritonei, pelvic oncology, bowel diseases including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and various gastrointestinal cancers.
