About Mr Sasindran Ramar

Mr Ramar is an experienced consultant laparoscopic bariatric and metabolic surgeon with over 20 years of expertise in general and laparoscopic surgery. He has previously worked in multiple London hospitals, as well as across the UK in Scotland, Doncaster, and Bournemouth. He is currently serving as a consultant general, upper GI, and bariatric surgeon at King's College Hospital, specialising in elective bariatric and upper GI surgery.

Mr Ramar believes in a holistic approach to patient care and actively participates in the weekly bariatric multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings. He also runs clinics for bariatric, general, and upper GI patients. He holds one of the largest NHS practices for laparoscopic bariatric surgery.

His elective work primarily involves primary and revision bariatric surgery and benign upper GI surgery, including laparoscopic bile duct exploration. Mr Ramar's day cases often include performing laparoscopic surgeries such as gallbladder and hernia surgery, as well as gastroscopies, including therapeutic procedures. He is the lead for Emergency General Surgery (EGS) Upper GI pathways and is involved in establishing and delivering surgical ambulatory care. He currently works alongside the Surgical Ambulatory Emergency Care team. Additionally, Mr Ramar serves as an emergency surgeon at King's College Hospital.

Mr Ramar has made significant contributions to medical research, producing numerous publications. He is actively involved in research and is a member performing laparoscopic gastric banding surgery for the GLIDE trial. He has also contributed to studies such as cardiac changes after bariatric surgery (BARCODE) and depression and its outcomes after bariatric surgery (BARIDEP).

Passionate about training the next generation of surgeons, Mr Ramar holds several educational roles. He is a clinical and educational supervisor for foundation trainees and specialist registrars (SpRs) and is an honorary senior clinical lecturer at King's College London.
