Professor Ishaq received his specialist training in Scotland, North East and West Midland and has worked at major teaching centres in the Birmingham, Newcastle upon Tyne, Aberdeen and Stoke on Trent. He completed his specialist training in 2002 and was awarded joint CCST in general medicine and Gastroenterology. On completion of his training he took up a post as Consultant Physician, Gastroenterologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospital. He moved to Russell Hall Hospital in 2006. He is an experienced Consultant Gastroenterologist who acts as a regional trainer and mentor for endoscopy.

He has been involved with research projects in Gastroenterology and has published widely.

His research interest includes:

Endoscopic management of Gastrointestinal bleeding
