Dr Shaila Sukthankar is a Consultant Paediatrician at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, where she has been serving since her appointment in 2003. Dr Sukthankar's daily responsibilities include outpatient elective consultations, assessing acutely unwell children referred by GPs or self-presenting to the hospital, and managing inpatient acute and emergency cases. She also provides general paediatric support to various surgical and medical specialties, ensuring comprehensive care for patients with complex needs. Her consultations are child-centred, conducted in a friendly and relaxed environment, and cater to patients from one month to 16 years of age.

Dr Sukthankar completed her paediatric training at premier teaching institutions in Mumbai, India, and further specialised in paediatrics and paediatric nephrology in the UK over eight years. Her extensive training and experience have equipped her with a broad range of expertise in paediatric care.

Beyond her clinical practice, Dr Sukthankar is deeply involved in postgraduate education and research. She served as the Clinical Lead in Paediatrics for four years and has led several research studies on nephrotic syndrome, RSV bronchiolitis, and iron deficiency anaemia. She is also an Associate Director for Medical Education at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and has previously held roles as Regional Adviser for Paediatrics and MRCPCH Examiner.

Dr Sukthankar's areas of expertise include the assessment of acutely unwell children, inpatient acute and emergency management, and outpatient elective consultations. She treats a wide range of conditions, including abdominal pain, asthma, bone pains, constipation, day/night wetting, eczema, fevers, fits and faints, general aches and pains, growth concerns, headaches, hypermobility, infant feeding difficulties, nephrotic syndrome, paediatric bone diseases, paediatric nephrology, recurrent cough, recurrent diarrhoea, recurrent infections, respiratory infections, rickets, RSV bronchiolitis, and urine infections.
