Dr Shankar Ramaswamy is a consultant in anaesthesia, pain management, and neuromodulation at St Bartholomew’s and Royal London Hospital. He has been serving as the clinical lead for in-patient pain management at Royal London Hospital and the Newham MSK collaboration since his appointment in 2014. Dr Ramaswamy is also the undergraduate and postgraduate education lead at Bart’s Health and Queen Mary University of London and holds an honorary visiting senior lecturer position at the University of Edinburgh.

Dr Ramaswamy earned his MD in Anaesthesia from PGIMER, Chandigarh, India, and received further anaesthetic training in the UK. He completed a certificate of Specialist Training in Anaesthesia and Pain Management in 2014 and an Advanced Pain Fellowship at Imperial Healthcare in London. His areas of expertise include managing acute and chronic pain conditions such as back pain, neck pain, post-surgical pain, fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain, headache, facial pain, abdominal-pelvic pain, sports injuries, whiplash injuries, and cancer pain.

Dr Ramaswamy is dedicated to patient-centred care, devising treatment plans tailored to individual needs. He is a strong advocate for patient education and self-management approaches. His procedural expertise includes cervical and lumbar facet joint injections, epidural/root blocks, radiofrequency treatments, splanchnic nerve blocks, ultrasound-guided interventions, regenerative medicine, advanced laser therapies, and neuromodulation.

In addition to his clinical roles, Dr Ramaswamy has extensive experience in medico-legal report writing, providing detailed insights into causality, prognosis, and capacity assessments. He is well-versed in civil procedure protocols and offers medico-legal appointments and reports with quick turnaround times.
