Miss Shankari Arulkumaran is a consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology whose NHS practice is at St Mary's Hospital. Her clinical work includes outpatient gynaecological care and support for women affected by pregnancy loss, traumatic delivery and perinatal mental health difficulties.

At St Mary's, she was appointed to establish bereavement and perinatal mental health services. She provides joint clinics with psychiatrists, supporting women after traumatic deliveries and previous obstetric losses.

Miss Arulkumaran completed her medical training at Imperial College London and specialist training at teaching hospitals in North West London. She also holds a first-class intercalated BSc in Medical Anthropology from University College London, where her dissertation on reproductive rights in rural India received a prize.

She was awarded an MD for research into preterm labour and an MSc in Safety and Healthcare, both from Imperial College London. Her qualifications include FRCOG, and she contributes regularly to teaching and education with the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
