Mr Simon Radley, a Consultant General Surgeon, graduated with Honours in Surgery from the University of Birmingham in 1985. Following his initial house officer posts in Birmingham, he transitioned to a lecturer in anatomy at the University. After completing his Senior House Officer training, he conducted significant research on colorectal cancer, earning an MD from the University of Birmingham for his thesis.
Mr Radley pursued registrar surgical training in general and colorectal surgery in the West Midlands. Specializing in colorectal surgery, he completed his training at St Marks Hospital in London and received overseas traveling fellowships to the USA to study rectal cancer treatments.
Upon completing his training, Dr Radley assumed the role of Senior Lecturer in Colorectal Surgery at Birmingham University and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. In April 2002, he became an NHS Consultant Colorectal Surgeon. Dr Radley played a crucial role in introducing laparoscopic colorectal surgery and enhanced surgical recovery protocols at University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and The Priory Hospital.
Instrumental in establishing the Birmingham Bowel Clinic, the first private centre of excellence for managing bowel conditions in the West Midlands, Mr Radley leads a team of highly qualified specialists. The clinic offers a comprehensive and integrated service with a multidisciplinary approach to bowel conditions.
Mr Simon Radley has been actively involved in publishing research on colorectal disease, particularly functional bowel disorders. He served as the Clinical Service Lead for Gastro-intestinal Surgery at University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.
His expertise encompasses a wide range of diseases, medical tests, and treatments, including anal incontinence and pelvic floor surgery, bowel screening, colonoscopy, coloproctology, colorectal surgery, endoscopy, hernia repair (keyhole), laparoscopy, locally advanced and recurrent cancer surgery (including exenteration), surgical gastroenterology, surgical treatment for haemorrhoids (including HALO and Rafaelo procedures), bowel cancer, rectal bleeding, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
