    Dr Sonya Abraham is a Consultant Research Physician at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, specialising in rheumatology, general internal medicine, and early phase clinical studies. She offers private consultations at several locations, including The Lister Hospital, Chelsea Outpatient Centre, Sydney Street Outpatients and Diagnostic Centre, and Chiswick Medical Centre.

    Appointed in 2000, Dr Abraham has been instrumental in leading clinical trials for inflammatory arthritis. She also serves as the north-west London CLRN Rheumatology lead and the CCRN musculoskeletal industry liaison lead on a national level.

    Dr Abraham's research interests are diverse and include the development of biomarkers in immune-mediated inflammatory diseases, the effects of steroids on intracellular pro-inflammatory signalling pathways, and imaging in inflammatory arthritis conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and psoriatic arthritis. She is also deeply invested in understanding the impact of inflammatory diseases on patients and their families, holding several research grants in these areas.

    Her academic journey began at Guy's and St Thomas' Medical School, followed by postgraduate training in Oxford, Cambridge, and London. She earned her PhD from the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, where she studied the effects of glucocorticoids on pro-inflammatory intracellular signalling as a Wellcome Clinical Training Fellow.

    Dr Abraham holds several prestigious roles, including President of the Rheumatology and Rehabilitation section of the Royal Society of Medicine, Chair of the British Psoriatic Arthritis Consortium, and north-west London LCRN musculoskeletal and division 5 lead. She is also an Arthritis Research UK medical student mentor.

    A regular speaker at international conferences, Dr Abraham is committed to education, frequently lecturing medical students, GPs, and nurses on clinical rheumatology and immunology. She has authored and co-authored numerous clinical papers and book chapters on inflammation and rheumatology-related topics.
