Mr Sritharan Kadirkamanathan is a distinguished consultant upper GI, laparoscopic, and robotic surgeon at Mid-Essex Hospitals NHS Trust. He also serves as an honorary senior lecturer at Queen Mary, University of London. Appointed in 2003, he has extensive expertise in upper gastrointestinal and endoscopic, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery.

Mr Kadirkamanathan has a special interest in gastric pacing for gastroparesis, having established Broomfield Hospital as the national centre for this treatment in the UK. He is also renowned for his work in oesophageal and gastric cancer, setting up Broomfield as the cancer centre for Essex. His unit performs advanced minimally invasive surgeries, including robotic and laparoscopic procedures for both benign and malignant conditions of the oesophagus and stomach.

He has performed over 120 robotic operations and is the first UK upper GI surgeon accredited to perform robotic surgery. His clinical interests also include capsule endoscopy, a service he established at Broomfield Hospital, and the physiology of the stomach and oesophagus, for which he set up a dedicated laboratory.

Mr Kadirkamanathan is a lead clinician for the Essex-wide cancer network for oesophageal and gastric cancers and serves as a special advisor to NICE on interventional procedures. He is also involved in training and mentoring surgeons internationally and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals. His leisure interests include cricket, football, golf, and classical music.
