Mr Stephen Metcalfe is a dedicated and highly skilled Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon, working at The Harborne Hospital. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 2001, followed by Neurosurgical training in Newcastle and Middlesbrough. He then undertook a Spinal Fellowship in Adelaide, Australia.

He undertakes all aspects of Spinal Neurosurgery (excluding complex deformity), including degenerative, trauma, and tumours, with a special interest in intramedullary and intradural tumours.

In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Metcalfe has a dedicated interest in medical education and training, and is currently a Royal College of Surgeons of England Surgical Tutor for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, where he plays a key role in training the next generation of surgeons. He is also a member of the national Specialty Advisory Committee for Neurosurgery.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is also a member of the Society of British Neurological Surgeons (SBNS), the British Association of Spine Surgeons (BASS), and AO Spine.
