About Mr Taimur Shah

GMC number: 6164434

Year qualified: 2007

Place of primary qualification: University of London

Mr Taimur Shah is a consultant urological surgeon and clinical senior lecturer (associate professor) at Imperial College London (ICL). He leads the prostate cancer Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) at ICL. Mr Shah's practice encompasses all urological conditions, with a particular focus on treatments for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). He is an internationally recognised expert in the investigation of prostate cancer using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and fusion transperineal prostate biopsies. His expertise extends to the treatment of prostate cancer using the latest minimally invasive techniques, including focal therapy with high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) and cryotherapy.

Mr Shah has an extensive publication record in peer-reviewed journals and is frequently invited to lecture both nationally and internationally. He is also highly skilled in performing Da Vinci Robotic Prostatectomy, a surgical procedure to remove the prostate.

Mr Shah qualified from University College London (UCL), where he earned a First-Class Honours degree in molecular medicine. He completed his urological training in London, rotating through prestigious institutions such as Charing Cross Hospital, The Royal Marsden Hospital, Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals, and the Whittington Hospital. He further specialised by undertaking a uro-oncology fellowship in robotic surgery at Guys and St Thomas' Hospital.

In addition to his clinical qualifications, Mr Shah holds a PhD from UCL, focusing on focal therapy using HIFU and cryotherapy for newly diagnosed prostate cancer and cancer that has recurred after previous radiotherapy. He has been instrumental in designing and delivering multiple clinical trials for primary, metastatic, and radio-recurrent prostate cancer. Currently, he is a key member of the Imperial Prostate (IP) Group at Imperial College London.

Mr Shah's areas of expertise include prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), focal therapy, high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), cryotherapy, and Da Vinci Robotic Prostatectomy. His clinical interests lie in advancing minimally invasive techniques and improving patient outcomes through innovative treatments and clinical research. He has been serving in his current roles since his appointment at Imperial College London.
