Mr Tev Aho is a Consultant Urologist with a specialist interest in treating men with bothersome urinary symptoms and urinary retention due to Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). He is the most experienced Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) surgeon in the UK, having performed over 2,200 procedures. Tev frequently lectures on HoLEP both in the UK and internationally and has convened an annual HoLEP course at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge since 2005. He has demonstrated live laser prostate surgery, including the world’s first thulium laser enucleation of the prostate, at numerous global conferences and has published extensively on HoLEP.

Mr Tev is also proficient in performing Urolift, Rezum, and Aquablation procedures, offering a comprehensive and bespoke service for men with urination issues. He has been offering Urolift since 2015 and was one of the first three UK urologists to perform Aquablation in 2017. He participated in the widely published WATER Study, investigating Aquablation. In 2020, Tev performed the first NHS Rezum procedures in Cambridgeshire.

Mr Tev moved from New Zealand to the UK in 2003 to become the Clinical Fellow in Uro-oncology at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and was appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon there in 2004. He has been involved in HoLEP research from its inception, introducing it at CUH in 2004, where it remains the treatment of choice for many men.

Committed to surgical training, Mr Tev was the founding President of the UK Holmium User Group (HUG) and designed the national HUG Training Programme for HoLEP. He has mentored many surgeons and served as the Urology Training Programme Director in the East of England for five years until 2014. He also served on the Urology Specialist Advisory Committee for another five years.

Mr Tev's other specialist interest is the surgical treatment of kidney cancer, offering both laparoscopic and open kidney surgery. He also performs laparoscopic pyeloplasty for PUJ obstruction. Outside of work, Tev enjoys running marathons, music, attending festivals and the theatre, and enjoying good food, wine, and whiskey.
